Gentle yoga and stretching in Colombo

Gentle yoga is slow and supported. The class uses simple positions and controlled movement. Blocks, bolsters and the wall are used when they help.

Who this class is actually for

This is the class for the days you have looked at a yoga video online and thought, there is no version of me that does that.

    It suits:

    • Wanting to move without risking something
    • Hips and a lower back that have stopped cooperating after years at a desk
    • Coming back after an injury or illness, with clearance to move
    • Finding ordinary yoga classes too fast or too demanding
    • Wanting to stretch without a fitness class attached to it

    What the class is like

The class begins with breathing and slow movement through the neck, shoulders, hips and spine. It includes supported standing and seated positions, followed by floor work and time lying still.

Everything can be adjusted if getting up and down from the floor is difficult.

    When we run it

Gentle Hatha runs Tuesday at 9:30am and Saturday at 10:00am. Classes are in the studio and last 60 minutes.

    If something hurts

Tell the instructor before class. If you have a diagnosed condition or significant pain, check with your doctor or physiotherapist before joining.

    Common questions

Can I come with a stiff or painful back?

Often, yes. Tell the instructor what hurts before the class begins. For diagnosed or severe pain, ask your doctor or physiotherapist first.

    Is gentle yoga only stretching?

No. The class also works on controlled movement, balance and support around the joints.

What if getting to the floor is difficult?

Tell the instructor. Movements can be offered seated or with the wall.
