    Hatha yoga in Colombo

Hatha yoga moves at a steady pace. You move into a position, hold it for several breaths, and then move on. The pauses give you time to understand what you are doing and ask for another option when you need one.

    What a class includes

A class runs for 60 minutes. It begins with breathing and simple warming movements. You then work through standing, seated and floor positions, followed by a few minutes lying still.

    Who it suits

Hatha works well for a first class, for returning after time away, and for days when you want clear instruction without rushing.

    When we run it

Hatha Yoga runs Thursday at 7:00am and Saturday at 7:15am and 8:30am. Classes are in the studio and last 60 minutes.

Hatha compared to our other classes

Gentle yoga is lower impact and more supported. Flex and Flow is also Hatha based, but the shapes link together into a sequence instead of being held one at a time. All three are beginner friendly.

If holding a shape feels too static, try Flex and Flow. If Hatha feels like too much on a given day, gentle is the right place.

    Common questions

Is Hatha yoga suitable for beginners?

Yes. The steady pace gives you time to understand each position.

    Will Hatha yoga build strength?

Holding your body weight in standing and floor positions works the legs, hips, shoulders and core. If you want a class built around a harder workout, see Strengthening Yoga.

Do I need to know the names of the positions?

No. The instructor explains them as the class moves.
